Editors, how we love them!

I have a love-hate relationship with editors and the changes (havoc!) they cause.  Its well intentioned and eventually appreciated but painful nonetheless.  Take my latest story, for instance.  The feedback that came back on one of the chapters was brutal: more than half of it was axed!  After I got over my initial spurt of anger I read the notes in the margin.   It took some further deliberation, I won't lie, before I talked to them directly.  In the end the chapter and the story overall was much better for the changes.  It all the right things like unify the voice of the character and stay in keeping with his personality.  The thought of giving up the material, the information I had previously presented was the gall that dug at me.  I took some solace in that its not entirely dead; it will live again in another incarnation.
